Degenerative Osteoarthritis
A 56 year-old woman suffered from pain in her lower right leg, neck, waist and hip for ten years. These symptoms started getting worse in the last three years. She could not lie down to sleep because of neck pain. Her hip joints made grinding noises when she walked due to joint degeneration. As a result, she had to adjust her daily routine to manage the disability, such as using her right hand to support and move her right leg as she entered a vehicle.
Magnetic resonance images (MRIs) showed that her intervertebral discs slipped 1.4 cm in her neck and 1.2 cm in her lumber spine. She visited many well-known Eastern and Western physicians in Los Angeles, but none of the treatments improved her health. Two orthopedists advised her to have hip replacement surgery in three years since the artificial hip may need to be replaced every ten years. It would be a little bit early if she received that replacement at her age. The second recommended surgery was cervical spine operation which required approaching through the anterior side of her neck to place titanium alloy plates into the cervical spine. However, the success rate of the operation is only 60%. An unsuccessful surgery can cause the patient to be bedridden for life, become hemiplegic or suffer more pain; other sequelae may persist.
After a cycle of cell therapy instead of surgery, her pain was reduced by 90% - 100%, with only occasional and slight pain on the right side of her body. She was able to lie down and walk freely.
She was glad to have avoided cervical spine and hip replacement surgery. She said that the cell therapy should be listed as the first choice of treatments for such degenerative diseases instead of surgery, painkillers or muscle relaxants.
There is a very high incidence rate of degenerative osteoarthritis in the world. It is a very common cause for disabilities in humans. CHMSUN expects to develop such outstanding techniques and treatments as the one mentioned above to reduce or even cure pain and disability caused by degenerative osteoarthritis. The committee aims to reduce the percentage of the population suffering from degenerative diseases and disabilities throughout the world. It is expected that similar technology will be developed to help relieve the pain experienced by patients with degenerative arthritis globally so as to reach an ideal therapeutic goal.
